Second Career Victory for Mahanadi
15 May 2012

The Pencarrow bred and raced Mahanadi took the second win of his short career yesterday at Paeroa in the $7,000 Rating 65 Tony Richards Toyota 2200.

Trained by Kevin Myers, Mahanadi (Tiger Hill x Bargibant) settled towards the back of the field after jumping from the gates but improved to race mid-field for jockey Scott MacNab. Taking an inside run coming into the straight, Mahanadi had to weave his way through the field, but once in clear racing room he showed a good turn-of-foot to run down Gee Oh (Postponed) to win by half-a-length.

Bred by Peter and Philip Vela, the four-year-old came into the race fresh up after running fifth on a heavy track at Greymouth in a special conditions 2000 metre maiden in January.

With five starts under his belt, the son of Tiger Hill broke his maiden at his third appearance at Westland in mid-January this year by a length-and-a-quarter.

A well-bred son of Tiger Hill, Mahanadi is from the Sir Tristram mare Bargibant and is a half-brother to Free at Last (Senor Pete) who won the Group 2 Cox Stakes and Listed Tattersall's Cup. Mahanadi was the last living foal from Bargibant.
