Sir Peter Vela’s Frankel Colt Scores Big Win in France

Carrying the blue and white hopped colours of Pencarrow Stud owner Sir Peter Vela, Frankel colt Eminent scored the biggest win of his career to date in the €400,000 Group 2 Prix Guillaume d’Ornano (2000m) at Deauville on Tuesday.

Ridden by one of the world’s leading jockeys in Ryan Moore, Eminent led throughout and kicked away impressively in the closing stages to win by three lengths. Among the beaten runners was Brametot (Rajsaman), winner of the Group 1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains and Prix du Jockey Club.

“He had a clear run and showed how good he is. I'm absolutely thrilled,” trainer Martyn Meade said. “Beating a dual classic winner in France is quite exciting stuff.”

Eminent has now had six starts for three wins. This was his second stakes win, having previously claimed the Group 3 Craven Stakes at Newmarket in April. His three defeats have all come at Group 1 level, finishing sixth in the 2000 Guineas, fourth in the Derby and fifth in the Eclipse Stakes.
