Maltese Ruby (NZ) Continues Outstanding Form

Highly talented Pencarrow mare Maltese Ruby (NZ) (Darci Brahma) recorded her third win from four starts this season when she took out Tuesday’s $11,000 B & B Contracting Rating 75 (1400m) at Tauherenikau.

Ridden by Jasmine Fawcett, the four-year-old overcame some bad luck around the home turn to score by a half-head.

“She got into a lovely spot one out and one back, but then got pushed out on the corner,” said Steven Ramsay, who trains in partnership with Julia Ritchie. “She only had 51 kilograms, which helped, and she’s a lovely mare.”

Bred by Pencarrow Thoroughbreds Ltd and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Maltese Ruby has now had six starts for three wins and more than $21,000 in prize-money.

Maltese Ruby is out of the Savabeel mare Scarlet Tiger (NZ), a daughter of the stakes-winning Centaine mare Tehama (NZ).
