Third Win for Smart Mare Maison Roxanne (NZ)
The Pencarrow colours were carried to victory at Waipukurau on Sunday by highly talented mare Maison Roxanne (NZ) (Snitzel), who recorded her third victory in the $10,000 Aon Insurance Brokers (1200m).
With Leah Hemi in the saddle, the four-year-old showed electric gate speed and took a clear early lead, then settled in third as Ristretto (NZ) (Makfi) and Bucky (NZ) (Power) were sent forward from wider draws.
Maison Roxanne sat just behind that pair around the home turn, ready to pounce. When a narrow gap appeared along the rail, she burst through and raced past Ristretto to win by half a length. The rest of the field finished almost four lengths behind the first pair.
Trained by Steven Ramsay & Julia Ritchie, Maison Roxanne has now had 11 starts for three wins, four placings and $36,860 in stakes.
Maison Roxanne was bred by Pencarrow Thoroughbreds Ltd and is raced by Sir Peter Vela.
Her sire is Australia’s remarkably dominant stallion Snitzel, and her dam Madame Echezeaux (NZ) (Montjeu) comes from an esteemed Pencarrow family.
Madame Echezeaux is a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winner and highly successful sire Darci Brahma (NZ) (Danehill), and the multiple stakes winner and sire Burgundy (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice), who unfortunately had to be put down this week due to laminitis.
Second dam Grand Echezeaux (NZ) (Zabeel) is a Group 1 winner and a three-quarter sister to the high-class mare Romanee Conti (NZ) (Sir Tristram), the dam of champion Pencarrow mare Ethereal (NZ) (Rhythm).
