Pencarrow Racing

In 2008 Pencarrow Stud established its own dedicated training facility at Maungatautari, near Lake Karapiro. On land leased from esteemed New Zealand trainer, Laurie Laxon, who is now based in Singapore, the farm has a proud history of producing outstanding racehorses, including Pencarrow’s own champion, Ethereal, trained by Sheila Laxon to win the G1 Caulfield and Melbourne Cups double in 2001.

The property is now home to the Pencarrow Racing string, under the care of the training partnership of Steven ‘Rambo’ Ramsay & Julia Ritchie.

This season Peter Vela has also had horses in the stables of Wally Mitchell, John O'Shea, Peter Moody, Mick Price and David Hayes in Australia; Lance O'Sullivan & Andrew Scott, Roger James, Bruce Wallace, Jason Bridgman, Shaune Ritchie, Kevin Gray, Graham Richardson, Ken Kelso, Kevin Myers, Lance Noble, Lisa Latta, Jan Hay, John Sargent, Raylene Whiteside, Graeme & Debbie Rogerson, and Donna & Dean Logan in New Zealand; and Mark Walker and Laurie Laxon in Singapore.

In August 2013 we welcomed a new member to the team with the appointment of Garry Cossey as Pencarrow Racing Manager, and in May 2014 we added Hall of Fame trainer Lee Freedman to the team as Director of Racing.

Pencarrow Racing's tally of wins (and near misses) so far for the season is below:

05 Aug 2014

Last season saw Pencarrow owned gallopers salute for 55 wins across New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

With the emergence of talented young horses combined with existing stars in the stable this season is one to look forward to for the team at Pencarrow.
