Pencarrow Stud is very proud of the quality of racehorses it has bred and/or raced since it was established.

Some of the best-performed horses bred and/or raced have included:

ETHEREAL: She was foaled in 1997 at Pencarrow Stud in New Zealand. The winner of 8 races, her victories included the Group 1 2001 Caulfield Cup, Group 1 Melbourne Cup and Group 1 BMW Stakes - three of the most important staying races on the Australasian calendar. She joined an elite group of horses to have completed the Caulfield/Melbourne Cups double in the same year. As a 3yo she also captured a win in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks. She amassed stake earnings of more than A$4.7 million in a career which stamped her as one of the top racemares in Australasia. She is by Rhythm from Pencarrow Stud-bred Hong Kong Cup winner Romanee Conti, a daughter of Sir Tristram. Ethereal was named the champion Australian stayer in 2002.
ETHEREAL
ROMANEE CONTI: The Hong Kong International Cup winner of 1993. She also scored a superb win in the STC Queen of the Turf Stakes at Rosehill in Sydney which is a Group 3 event. In addition she won four other Stakes and Listed races. She registered seven wins in total, as well as her second place to the champion Octagonal in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwic,. She collected total prize money of over $NZ1 million in 1988, made Romanee Conti a great racemare for the Stud and all race followers through out Australasia and Asia. At stud she has proved an equally outstanding performer as the dam of Caulfield/Melbourne Cups winner Ethereal which has ensured her dynasty will live on for many generations to come.
ROMANEE CONTI

NOBLE HEIGHTS: One of the foundation broodmares and a magnificent influence on the identity and success of Pencarrow Stud. A daughter of Sir Tristram, she won seven races including the Group 1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas. She also won the Lowland Stakes and Gold Trail Stakes and finished third in the Group I Australian (AJC) Oaks at Randwick during her outstanding three-year-old campaign. These performances saw her win the prestigious New Zealand Filly Of The Year title. She also performed with a great deal of credit during her four-year-old campaign in Australia where she won the Listed Eagle Farm Stakes in Brisbane in June, 1983. Later that same year she went to Sydney and captured the Group 3 Queen's Cup before running third in the Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap.


NOBLE HEIGHTS
RIVERINA CHARM: A wonderful race mare by Sir Tristram with seven wins including four Group 1's on both sides of the Tasman. Her Group 1 victories came in the Air New Zealand Stakes, Rosehill Guineas, Canterbury Guineas and Melbourne's 1000 Guineas. She amassed nearly $A800,000 in stake earnings, Riverina Charm has left three individual stakeswinners including the 2000 New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year series title-winner in Sarwatch (by Jetball), plus Paolino and Russian Charm. Sarwatch's most important wins came in the Group 2 Royal Stakes at Ellerslie and Group 3 Gold Trail Stakes at Hastings. Riverina Charm had an amazing turn of foot which was seen to full advantage in the closing stages of most of her races.


RIVERINA CHARM

STAR DANCER: A three-time Group 1 winner who scored at the highest level on both sides of the Tasman. He won the JRA Classic and Auckland Classic in New Zealand and took out the Futurity Stakes in Melbourne beating a quality field of sprinters under weight-for-age conditions. He won a total of 14 races during an outstanding career from the stable of Bruce Wallace at Takanini. Star Dancer's deeds were recognised at the BMW Awards functions.

DE BEERS: This top-class galloper scored at Group 1 level in the Rosehill Guines and was a game second in the Group 1 AJC Derby. He produced some top efforts in group company throughout his racing career. Having won at only his second race-day start as a two-year-old he showed his best form as a three-year-old with a succession of high-class performances. A horse with a wonderful turn of foot who competed at the highest level with a lot of distinction.

DARCI BRAHMA: A bay colt by Danehill who sold at the 2004 Karaka Premier Sale for $1,100,000, Darci Brahma registered five Group 1 wins in an amazing racing career. These Group 1 victories included the T J Smith Classic in Brisbane as a two-year-old. He claimed the Champion Two- and Three-Year-Old titles and NZ Champion Sprinter title in 2007. He now stands at The Oaks Stud in Cambridge where he received a fantastic first-season book of broodmares in 2007.


DARCI BRAHMA

HOEBERG: From a champion South African filly (Petrava) and a champion South African filly herself. She produced three wins at Group 1 level in South Africa - the South African Fillies Guineas, the Kenilworth Paddock Stakes and the Kenilworth Cape Fillies Guineas.

CLEAR ROSE: Was a brilliant winner of the Group I New Zealand Bloodstock One Thousand Guineas at Riccarton and was the winner of three other events at Group level during her fine career on the track. The other Group race wins were recorded in the Desert Gold Stakes at Trentham, Eulogy Stakes at Awapuni and Japan/NZ Trophy at Tauranga. She was also the gamest (and unlucky) second in the Group 1 New Zealand Derby. She was trained by Laurie Laxon who held the daughter of Deputy Governor in the very highest regard. Her career winning tally was six wins from only 30 starts.



CLEAR ROSE
GRAND ECHEZEAUX: This Group I winning daughter of Pencarrow's fine and successful broodmare, Richebourg, was retired to the broodmare band in 2001 with a wonderful record of winning the Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks, as well as the Group III Lakewood Stud Stakes, and two other wins.
Her first foal was Darci Brahma, five-time Gr. 1 winner.

GRAND ECHEZEAUX

VAPOUR TRAIL: The wonderful race performer, Vapour Trial, joined the illustrious Pencarrow Stud broodmare band in 2002 after her crowning glory as the 2002 New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year. The five-time winner, including the Group I New Zealand Oaks and Group II’s ARC Eight Carat Classic and WRC Sir Tristram Fillies Classic, is from the unraced Sir Tristram mare, Devil’s Lair. Vapour Trail was trained by Dean and Donna Logan throughout her racing career. Her other notable victories came in the Group 2 Great Northern Guineas against all comers and the Listed Auckland Guineas Trial. She also was placed third in the Group 2 ARC Grosvenor Championship Stakes at Ellerslie.


VAPOUR TRAIL

SARWATCH: Won the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly Of The Year series and ultra-consistent throughout a racing career which netted her four wins. A Group II, Group III and Listed winner, as well as stakes placed, Sarwatch is a worthy daughter of Pencarrow’s Group I winner Riverina Charm. Her most notable victories were recorded in the Group 2 ARC Royal Stakes, Group 3 Highview Stakes at Hastings and Listed ARC Soliloquy Stakes.

CAVALLIERI: Winner of the Group 1 New Zealand Derby when defeating star performer Veandercross. He was a proven stayer and trained by Laurie Laxon who held him in high regard.

LINESMAN: Winner of the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) and runner-up in the Group 1 Metropolitan. He won a total of four Group races also winning the St Leger. He was trained by Australia's first lady of racing, Gai Waterhouse. He won a total of eight races.

INSOUCIANT: Winner of the Group 1 New Zealand Bloodstock 1000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton in 2007. She also won the Group 3 Eulogy Stakes at Awapuni and finished second in the Group 2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic. She collected the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly Of The Year series title for 2007/08. She was rated by jockey Michael Walker as a very special galloper with a huge amount of natural racing ability. The Keeper filly is trained by Mark Walker at Matamata.


INSOUCIANT

WINNING BELLE: Scored a fine win in the Gr. 2 Queensland Guineas and also finished a game third in the Gr. 1 Queensland Oaks. Also won the Gr. 3 Canterbury Cup. She also finished second to the great Makybe Diva in the Gr. 1 Australian Cup which was run in world record time.

ALLEZ SUEZ: Defeated the champion mare Sunline when he won the Gr. 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick. A top-class gallloper. The winner of five races

TE AKAU COUP: Winner of the Group 2 Matamata Breeders' Stakes in outstanding style and a very smart filly with a big future ahead. A half-sister to Don Garcia (Danehill), bought by David Ellis for $1,050,000 as a yearling, Te Akau Coup was also purchased by Ellis from the 2007 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale from the draft of Pencarrow Stud, but for a far more conservative sum of $150,000.The Matamata Breeders’ Stakes has always offered terrific residual value for the winner, and it should be no exception for the good bodied and athletic Te Akau Coup. Trainer Mark Walker has the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly Of The Year series on her agenda in the 2008/09 racing season and she looks sure to acquit herself well.

TETHYS: Winner of the Group 1 Avondale Gold Cup. Highly rated by trainer Roger James. Was also placed third in both the Group 1 Auckland Cup and Group 2 Waikato Cup.

MARMALITRE: Winner of the Group 1 South Australian Oaks at Morphettville in 1987 and the winner of five races in Australia in a 25-start career. Did all of her racing in Australia. Has produced a number of winners at stud including Group 1 New Zealand Oaks runner-up Pavan and Listed race winner Felenic.

FINEZZA BELLE: Won the Gr. 2 Grand Prix Stakes at the Brisbane winter carnival against a quality field. Was also a placegetter in the Gr. 1 Queensland Derby and Gr. 1 Queensland Oaks.

STAR OF NOUVELLE: Scored an outstanding win in the Group 2 Reisling Slipper in Sydney. Had a huge amount of talent and had a big reputation throughout her racing career which produced five wins and seven placings from just 22 starts. She is well bred being a daughter of Star Watch and the Mill Reef mare, Giladah, and was an outstanding 2yo performer. She was also Group 1 placed in the Karrakatta Plate in Western Australia.

CHRISTIANIA BELLE: Winner of the Gr. 2 Dulcie Stakes at Te Rapa against a high quality line-up of fillies and mares. She had an abundance of talent.

MORALEE: Showed her true ability in winning the Gr. 2 Cambridge Stud Sir Tristram Fillies' Classic at Te Rapa and was also successful in the Gr. 2 Wellington Stakes at Trentham.

BIG MAVERICK: Class three-year-old of 2008 in Singapore where he won the first two legs of the prestigious Triple Crown series and then finished a game second in the third leg. Trained by Laurie Laxon, he has enormous ability and a very exciting future ahead.

PAOLINO: Group 2 winner of the Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes and a very classy racemare. Had a ton of talent and highly rated by trainers Colin Jillings and Richard Yuill.

SANTAGOSTINO: An outstanding winner of the Group 2 Great Northern Guineas at Ellerslie and then went on to record a terrific win in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet at the Brisbane winter carnival to prove that she was up to Australian black-type level. Beautifully bred by Giant's Causeway from Devil's Lair. In a light racing career she greeted the judge on four occasions and created a very good impression with the judges.

LAFLEUR: Was the third winner of the Group 2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic (2000m) at Te Rapa in four years for Pencarrow Stud. She also won the Group 2 Royal Stakes at Ellerslie. A very classy galloper who proved herself at the highest level during her racing career.

ZINO BELLE: An emphatic winner of the Group 3 Gold Trail Stakes which is the opening race in the New Zealand Bloodsotck Filly Of The Year series. She also weighed in at Riccarton in the Group 1 New Zealand One Thousand Guineas.

LORD MORNINGTON: Possesed natural early speed and ran out the winner of the time-honoured Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington as a two-year-old in fine style.

GAIUS: Winner of the Group 2 Concorde Handicap at Avondale and a very fast galloper. He won a total of eight races and was successful at Group 2 level in Italy.

ARRABEEA: A dual Group 3 winner of the Thoroughbred Club Stakes in Melbourne and the Doomben Classic in Brisbane. Also won the Listed Toy Show Handicap at Randwick and finished second at Group 2 level in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes in Sydney during a distinguished racing career. Scored five wins in total. Talented galloper.

OUR LAFITE: Had huge amount of ability and was a stylish winner of the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes at the Melbourne spring carnival before finishing a very brave second in the Group 1 Victoria Oaks at Flemington.

CHEERFUL: Smart racemare who raced from the Sheila Laxon stable. The winner of seven races including the Group 3 Cuddle Stakes (1600m) at Trentham and also finished runner-up in the Anniversary Handicap.

RICHEBOURG: Won the Group 3 Tranquil Star Stakes over 1400m and scored five wins in total. A high quality galloper. Superbly bred daughter of Vice Regal and Mary Mead.
COPPER MOUNTAIN: A very talented galloper who produced some very creditable performances on the racetrack highligted by a Group 3 success in the Sunline Stakes at Te Rapa run by the Cambridge Jockey Club. Trainer Paul O'Sullivan alwasy spoke highly of his ability and was not afraid to take on some nice races with him during his racing career. By Jetball from Loudenne. He won five of only 11 starts during a short but notable racing career.

COUTET: Very consistent racemare and a Group 3 winner taking out the Invercargill Gold Cup. Winner of 6 races. Dam of Group 1 winner and outstanding galloper Allez Suez who won five races and was a multiple stakes performer. Very successful at stud.

SPACECRAFT: High-class galloper who won a total of 10 races during his racing career in Australia. These wins were highlighted by two Listed race successes including the Kilmore Cup. He was also a fine third in the Group 1 Australian Guineas in Melbourne as a three-year-old. He finished in the first three home in 18 of his starts.

CLASSIC WALK: Winner of the Listed South Island Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Riccarton. A daughter of Grosvenor, Classic Walk is from an outstanding family which features Boardwalk Angel and Coogee Walk. She won a total of seven races and also finished third in the Gr. 3 Cuddle Stakes at Trentham.
NAJABA: Daughter of Touching Wood. She won the Listed South Island Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Riccarton. Also finished third in the Gr. 2 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes at Te Aroha and recorded several other placings in black-type company. From a family chock-full of black-type winners.
BATTOCCHI: A dual black-type winner during her racing career. She won the Listed Matriarch Stakes at Flemington and also the Listed Ballarat Cup in Victoria. Closely related to Gr. 1 New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas winner The Pooka.
TROTANOY: Won the Listed Canterbury Belle Stakes at Riccarton as well as the Listed Timaru Stakes at Timaru. Also managed to finish third in the Gr. 3 Gold Trail Stakes. Recorded a total of six wins. Has produced six individual winners at stud including the stakes performers Arrabeea and Marie Claire.
TEHAMA: Nicely bred mare who made her mark on the racetrack winning the Listed Warstep Stakes at Riccarton. From the family of Boardwalk Angel and Coogee Walk. Half-sister to Listed winner Darcybee.

FILANTE ETOILE: Scored a fine win in the Listed Metropolitan Handicap in Brisbane. Also the runner-up in the Gr. 1 New Zealand Oaks at Trentham. A very useful staying mare.

DON GARCIA: Superbly bred racehorse and demonstrated his ability as a 2yo by winning the Listed Wellesley Stakes at Trentham. Half-brother to Gr. 2 Matamata Breeders Stakes winner Te Akau Coup.
