Stalking Tough as Teak in Taupo Cup

Pencarrow-bred Stalking (Van Nistelrooy x Dance My Dance, by Sadler’s Wells) fired too many guns for his competitors in the Harvey’s Real Estate Taupo Cup (1950m) at Taupo this afternoon.

The Mark Walker trained five-year-old, who has won from 1600m to 2100m, took out the $15,000 feature race on the Taupo card in a tough as teak display when fighting off five-time winner Heat Haze (Zabeel), and six-time winner Spirits Bay (Stravinsky), to get victory by a nose and a neck.

Now the winner of three races and over $20,000 in prize-money, Stalking is raced by Peter and Phillip Vela in partnership with Trevor Farmer and Mark Wyborn, the same partnership who race gifted gallopers like Noble Manor in Singapore and NZ Derby bound Martial Art.

With all his wins and placings at mile plus journeys, Stalking looks to have a bright future in similar Cups in the North Island after defeating a few ‘handy’ types today.

Stalking is a son of Dance My Dance who has also produced Posavina (Tiger Hill) to win this season. A three-year-old filly, Posavina looks to add considerable value to her immediate family when she contest the Group 2 New Zealand Bloodstock Royal Stakes (2000m) this coming Friday, New Year’s Day.

Dance My Dance produced a bay filly by Holy Roman Emperor this season and she looks set to join the Pencarrow racing academy in the coming years where she will join Stalking, Posavina and their two-year-old half-sister by Stravinsky.

Dance My Dance visited New Zealand’s Champion 2YO and 3YO colt Darci Brahma in his third season at Stud in 2009.
