Pencarrow Fillies Off for Education
20 March 2009
Pencarrow Stud’s policy of racing the majority of the fillies that they breed ensures that every year, around this time, there is a buzz in the air as the yearlings head off to the breakers for their education on the racing game.
Each group has a potential Ethereal, Romanee Conti, Noble Heights, Grand Echezeaux, Sarwatch, or Insouciant in its midst and the twenty-five filly foals of 2007 are no different.
The yearling fillies are about to be broken-in by Paul Pertab, Danny Walker, and Eion Kemp, who will receive the fillies in groups of six, with the education process usually taking six weeks. After this initial work, they will then return to Pencarrow Stud’s Te Kowhai property where they will spend the rest of the Autumn running and strengthening on the hills before returning to work in the winter.
The 2009 group has some exciting prospects, and below are some highlights in the different aptitude classifications.
