Debut Win for Mochalatte

Three year old Keeper filly Mochalatte recorded a fine win on debut for breeders and owners Peter & Philip Vela at New Plymouth on Thursday.

The filly from Night Shift mare Macchiato dug deep to get up by a nose over the 1200m event, following her trials win at Taupo on 9 October.

Just days later Mochalatte's exciting stablemate Insouciant, also by Keeper, ran well for second place in the 1400m 3YO fillies event at Trentham's G1 Captain Cook Stakes meeting on Saturday. Defeated by just half a neck by unbeaten Ustinov filly Anna Bek, Insouciant now has two wins and a place from her four career starts.

Sealing another win for the Michael Walker and Mark Walker combination, Mochalatte is also the second winner from two to the races for her dam Macchiato. The filly's four-year-old half-brother Harb (by Catbird) is a three-time winner for trainer David Hayes, and now races in Hong Kong.

Macchiato has a yearling colt by Savabeel, and produced a bay filly by NZ champion sire Zabeel this season.
