Micken Another Winner for Darci Brahma
10 June 2011
The Pencarrow Stud bred and Kevin Myers trained Micken has proven too good for his more seasoned competition on debut in the Race Images Juvenile (1200m) at Timaru yesterday.
Racing three-wide with no cover for the entirety of the race, jockey Lisa Whelan kept Micken (Darci Brahma x Battocchi) close to the pace in transit, and unleashed the two-year-old in the straight. Showing no signs of a tough trip, the two-year-old quickened and ranged up to race leader Venetian Raider (Rusty Spur) and raced clear to register a classy quarter-of-a-length victory.
Micken is the fourth individual winner for his first season sire, the Pencarrow Stud bred and sold Darci Brahma, who is the sire of the stakes winner Darci Be Good who won the Listed Fernhill Handicap in Australia earlier in the season.
From a performing family, Micken is a half-brother to the super talented filly Guiseppina who was bred and is raced by Pencarrow Stud. A winner of four of her seven starts, her preparation this season has uncovered the sheer talent she possesses, as she dealt to her rivals in the Listed Flying Handicap in April this year.
From the stakes winning Success Express mare Battocchi, Micken is also from the family of the Group 1 2000 Guineas winner The Pooka (Tobougg) and Group 1 Underwood Stakes winner Rubiscent (Rubiton).
