First Singapore Win for Gordon Roberts

Singapore trainer Laurie Laxon has continued his winning affiliation with Pencarrow Stud horses with Pencarrow part-owned Gordon Roberts winning the STC Class 4 Handicap (2200m) by six-and-a-half lengths.
Trained by Mark Walker in New Zealand before being taken to Singapore, Gordon Roberts (Encosta de Lago x Gordon’s) won twice in New Zealand with five additional placings, with Sunday’s win his first in Singapore in 12 starts.
Jumping out in front before settling behind the pace, Gordon Roberts and jockey Joao Moreira reclaimed the lead at the 1200 metre mark, and took the field into the straight where he opened up a six length lead and was eased down to the line for an easy win.
From a leading family, Gordon Roberts is from the Group 2 winning Kaapstad mare Gordon’s and is a half-brother to the talented horse Brave Kid (Elusive City) who has registered five wins in Hong Kong. It is also the family of the Group 1 winner Juice (Bertolini) and the New Zealand Oaks winning mare Tang (Taipan).
Gordon Roberts was purchased by David Ellis of Te Akau Stud for $260,000 from Phoenix Park at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2008 Karaka Premier Sale, and has now won over $60,000 in stakes.
