Deliciano Delivers in Dunstan Qualifier

In an impressive staying performance, Deliciano showed the deteriorating track conditions weren’t a problem in the $30,000 Dunstan Feeds Championship Qualifier (2100m) at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.

Ridden by jockey Leith Innes and trained by the Ramsay/Ritchie partnership, Deliciano (Darci Brahma x Santagostino, by Giant’s Causeway) settled back on the inside in transit and was brought forward on the home turn and stayed on well to win by half-a-length.

The victory saw Deliciano put together back to back victories after winning over 2000 metres at Hawke’s Bay in mid-December. The four-year-old holds a nomination for the Dunstan Feeds Championship Final (2000m) on New Year’s Day at Ellerslie.

Bred by Peter and Philip Vela, the daughter of Darci Brahma has now won three of her 13 starts for over $30,000 in stakes.

Deliciano is the first foal of Group 2 Great Northern Guineas winner Santagostino, a half-sister to the Pencarrow bred Group 1 New Zealand Oaks winner Vapour Trail (Jetball) and stakes winner Encosta Diablo (Encosta de Lago).

Santagostino foaled a colt by Lonhro and visited Pins in the 2012 breeding season.
