Pencarrow Singapore Double

Two closely related Pencarrow Stud-bred horses recorded a double in Singapore on Friday night with victories by Jade Win (Fast ‘n’ Famous x Ornellaia) and Jonathan (Darci Brahma x Bartolomeo) at Kranji.

The David Kok trained Jade Win broke through for his maiden victory in the first race on the night at Kranji over 1200m in a S$35,000 Maiden on the Polytrack for owner Spade Stable.

The four-year-old had finished second at his previous start and was able to go one better on Friday. After settling midfield in the running, Jade Win proved too strong for his competitors in the straight to win by half a length.

Sir Peter Vela and Philip Vela bred the son of Fast ‘n’ Famous who is out of the unraced Montjeu mare Ornellaia who is out of multiple Group 1 winner Riverina Charm (Sir Tristram), making her a half-sister to Group 2 winners Paolino (Housebuster) and Sarwatch (Jetball).

David Kok purchased the gelding as a two-year-old, paying $20,000 for him at NZB’s 2011 Ready to Run Sale from Kilgravin Lodge.

The second winner for Pencarrow Stud on the night came in Race 6 with Jonathan also scoring the first win of his career for ex-pat kiwi trainer Laurie Laxon and owner Oscar Racing Stables.

The gelding by Darci Brahma was bounced straight to the lead by rider David Flores and dictated the race throughout. The pair were able to kick away in the straight to win by 1.3 lengths in the S$35,000 Class 5 Stakes over 1200m.

Jonathan is related to Jade Win with Jonathan’s dam Bartolomeo (Strategic) being a daughter of Paolino, a half-sister to Jade Win’s dam Ornellaia. Bartolomeo is a half-sister to Listed winner Mirandola (O’Reilly) and is already the dam of four-time Singapore winner Soul Commander (Commands).

Laurie Laxon purchased Jonathan for $55,000 from Pencarrow Stud at the 2011 Karaka Premier Sale.

Bartolomeo foaled another colt by Darci Brahma last year and was served once again by the same sire.
