Debut Victory for La Adelita

Yesterday’s Matamata winner La Adelita (High Chaparral x Romantic Liaisons) was an impressive victor on debut in the $7,000 Pockets Q Masters Tokoroa Maiden 1400m for a trio of owners including Sir Peter Vela.

Joining Sir Peter Vela in the ownership is Justice Lowell Goddard and Karyn Fenton-Ellis, La Adelita entered her first start placing in two of her three trials for trainer Jason Bridgman.

Jockey Hayden Tinsley settled the daughter of High Chaparral mid-field with plenty of running room. In the straight, the filly unleashed a dazzling sprint as she accelerated past Genius to win by one-length on a Good 3 track.

“She’s a really nice filly and we have taken a lot of time with,” said Bridgman. “We have given her time to develop and strengthen and she has shown a good turn of foot at the trials, and the reason why we kicked her off at 1400 metres.

“Against the pattern of the day, to come from off the pace was pretty impressive.”

Bred by Justice Goddard, La Adelita was withdrawn from the 2012 Karaka Select Sale with illness preventing the filly from entering the ring. As a result Justice Goddard decided to race the filly with Sir Peter Vela and Karyn Fenton-Ellis.

The three-year-old filly is out of Romantic Liaisons (Danasinga), a half-sister to Listed winner Secret Liaisons (T.V. Heart Throb) who is the dam of 15-time race winner Reigning to Win (King of Kings) among the gallopers victories was the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes.
