Plenty of New Arrivals at Pencarrow Stud
01 September 2014
Foals at Pencarrow Stud are starting to hit the ground thick and fast with 11 born in August including four since Friday.
Among the mares that have already foaled this season are the progeny of champion sires Fastnet Rock and More Than Ready, first season sires Ocean Park and Reliable Man and what will be the last crop of prominent sire Commands.
Five of the 11 mares to have already foaled this season are stakes winners including the Group 1 winners Guiseppina (Johar) and Insouciant (Keeper). Guiseppina delivered her first foal, a filly by boom Australian-based sire Fastnet Rock while Insouciant delivered a colt by champion racehorse and first season sire Ocean Park.
“We had two Group 1 winners both foal on the same afternoon,” commented Stud Manager Leon Casey. “They are both young Group 1 winners and are probably the core of new mares coming through for us.
“I am really happy with all of our foals, especially the four we had over the weekend – they were all outstanding. I am really happy with Guiseppina for her first foal, the Insouciant has a lot of class and the foals by Commands and Sepoy look really good too.”
One of the more exciting foals expected this season will be Our Echezeaux’s foal by Frankel. Pencarrow Stud sent Our Echezeaux to the United Kingdom last year to be served by the highest rated horse of all time, the undefeated Frankel.
“We still have the Frankel foal to come out of Our Echezeaux and she is actually overdue, that will be highly anticipated. All up, we have 58 mares on the farm that we will foal this season,” said Casey.
The first foal born this season was a filly by Darci Brahma out of Group 3 winning mare Our Ella Belle (Encosta de Lago), who is from one of Pencarrow Stud’s most established families. Producing her first foal this year was Group 2 winner Dolmabache (Redoute’s Choice), delivering a filly by More Than Ready. The other stakes winner to have foaled is Marie Claire (O’Reilly), a Listed winner and Group 1 runner-up who delivered a colt by champion sire Commands.
Foals by exciting young sires Sepoy and Reliable Man have been born along with the progeny of proven sires Pins and Sakhee’s Secret.
With the first month of foaling done and dusted there are still many more top-quality mares still to foal including Ethereal (Rhythm), Grand Echezeaux (Zabeel), Lafluer (Zabeel), Santagostino (Giant’s Causeway), Stanica (Zabeel) and Battocchi (Success Express) whose son Dylan posted his first win last night in Singapore.
