Triomphe for Deauville

The Singapore branch of Pencarrow Racing was in action on the weekend with Deauville (Darci Brahma x Bartolomeo) capturing the third win of his career at Kranji.

Carrying the colours of Sir Peter Vela’s Pencarrow Stud, Deauville had been racing consistently with first three finishes in his last four starts for trainer Laurie Laxon.

Beginning from the inside barrier, rider Danny Beasley settled Deauville at the tail of the field in a patient ride. Even though the pace was slow, the son of Darci Brahma looped the field and dashed to the front in the last 100m to win by half-a-length at the end of the 1400m race.

“It was a good win,” commented Laxon. “He is best ridden from the back like most of the progeny by Darci Brahma, they are very good horses at chasing. He was always travelling well and he should win plenty more races.

“Danny Beasley said he should get 1600m, I will have look at the programme now and find a race for him in two or three weeks’ time.”

Sunday’s win Deauville’s third victory from 16 starts in Singapore and took his earnings to S$131,766 for owners Sir Peter Vela and Laxon’s Silver Fern Stable.

Bred by Sir Peter and Philip Vela, Deauville is out of Bartolomeo (Strategic) who is the dam of three runners who have all been winners in Singapore. Bartolomeo is a half-sister to Listed winner Mirandola (O’Reilly) being out of the Group 2 winner Paolino (Housebuster). This is the family of Pencarrow Stud matriarch Riverina Charm (Sir Tristram).

Bartolomeo was served by Darci Brahma last year with the resulting foal to be full-sibling to Deauville.
