Persuasive goes back-to-back at Ellerslie

Talented Pencarrow mare Persuasive (NZ) (Darci Brahma) continued her rich vein of form with a second consecutive victory at Ellerslie on Saturday.

A narrow winner over her stablemate Secret Spirit (NZ) (Swiss Ace) over the same course and distance two weeks ago, Persuasive produced the exact same result again in Saturday’s $30,000 Network Visuals (1200m).

Ridden by Sam Weatherley, she took an inside gap and sprinted to the lead in the straight, kicking strongly to beat Secret Spirit by a long neck.

“It was a good ride from Sam, he rode for luck and took the gap,” co-trainer Andrew Scott said. “Persuasive is a super consistent mare and it’s good to see her string a couple of wins together.”

Bred and raced by Sir Peter Vela, the six-year-old Persuasive has now had 22 starts for five wins, six seconds, three thirds and $93,060 in prize-money.

Persuasive is out of the Montjeu mare Pertinacious (NZ), a placed daughter of the multiple stakes winner and New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Sarwatch (NZ) (Jetball). The third dam was the four-time Group 1 winner Riverina Charm (NZ) (Sir Tristram).
