Four in a Row For Sleeping Beauty (NZ)

Exciting mare Sleeping Beauty (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle) extended her winning sequence to four in a row with a runaway victory in Saturday’s $30,000 Russell & Yvonne Green Memorial (1200m) at Matamata.

Ridden by Sam Weatherley for local trainers Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott, the five-year-old mare went straight to the lead and dominated the race from there. She kicked away in the straight to win by two and a half lengths.

“She’s flying, this horse,” Weatherley said. “She just keeps stepping up and stepping up. There’s definitely a black-type race in her.

“She came back to me really nicely in front today and got some nice easy sectionals. She just keeps winning, and that’s all she can do.”

Sleeping Beauty has now had 10 starts for five wins and three seconds, earning $58,750 in prize-money.

Bred and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Sleeping Beauty is out of the three-time winning Danehill mare Kailey Princess (NZ). That mare has produced eight winners from 10 foals to race including the stakes placegetters Prosperous Bid (NZ) (Carnegie) and Canny Princess (NZ) (Canny Lad).

Another of Kailey Princess’s foals, Sea Island (NZ) (Woodman) is the dam of the Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap winner Herculian Prince (NZ) (Yamanin Vital).
