Emphatic Matamata Win for Flourishing (NZ)

Pencarrow mare Flourishing (NZ) (Makfi) collected the second win of her short career to date with a convincing performance in Friday’s $10,000 McMassive Concrete Handicap (2000m) at Matamata.

With Jason Waddell in the saddle, the four-year-old sat in third place for most of the Rating 65 race before striding forward to take the lead on the point of the home turn. Flourishing kicked away in the last 300 metres, scoring by two and a half lengths.

The Steven Ramsay and Julia Ritchie-trained mare has now had eight starts for two wins, three placings and $16,950 in prizemoney.

Flourishing was bred by Pencarrow Thoroughbreds Ltd and owned by Sir Peter Vela.

She is the seventh foal out of the multiple Group 2-winning Zabeel mare Lafleur (NZ). She is the dam of six foals to race, four of them winners including Group 3 winner Amaryllis (NZ) (Red Ransom) and Listed winner Papilio (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice).
