Pencarrow Mare Produces Third G3 Winner
01 January 2019
Prince Jabeel (Savabeel) obtained Group 3 success today in the Pencarrow Stud-sponsored City of Auckland Cup (2400m).
It was a particularly memorable sponsorship for Pencarrow as the winner became the third Group 3 winner from the Pencarrow-bred multiple Group One-placed mare J’Adane (NZ) (Danehill). He has joined siblings Von Tunzelman (NZ) (Zabeel) and Sherrif (NZ) (Savabeel) in claiming valuable black-type.
Owned by B J Lindsay MZNM & Mrs J E A Linday, J Parsonson and L Van der Veer the five-year-old Lindsay-bred gelding broke his maiden just six starts prior under the guidance of trainer Lance Noble.
Ridden by gun amateur Ryan Elliot, the son of NZ’s leading sire beat in-form Mongolian Marshal (NZ) (High Chaparral) and Peso (NZ) (Colombia) to claim glory.
“He kept on rolling and rolling on, seeing Mongolian Marshal we really put the pressure on."
“It’s a great thrill,” said Elliot of the ride.
