Easy Maiden Win for Philosophical (NZ)

Pencarrow mare Philosophical (NZ) (Darci Brahma) earned the first win of her career with a dominant performance in the $10,000 Aquashield Roofing 1600 at Otaki on Monday.

Making only the seventh start of her career, Philosophical sat in midfield for jockey Lisa Allpress before looming on the outside at the turn. She produced a powerful finishing burst to race clear of her opposition and win by three and a quarter lengths.

Trained by Steven Ramsay and Julia Ritchie, the six-year-old has now had a win and three placings with $10,250 in prizemoney to her name for owner-breeder Sir Peter Vela.

Philosophical is a daughter of the Listed-winning O’Reilly mare Mirandola (NZ), whose dam Paolino (NZ) (Housebuster) won five races including the prestigious Group 2 Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes.

Philosophical’s third dam, Riverina Charm (NZ) (Sir Tristram), won seven races including the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes, Canterbury Guineas, Rosehill Guineas and the VATC Thousand Guineas.

In addition to Paolino, Riverina Charm also produced the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Sarwatch (NZ) (Jetball), who won the Group 2 Royal Stakes and Group 3 Gold Trail Stakes.
