Les Crayeres (NZ) Strikes Again

Les Crayeres (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice) added another victory to her increasingly impressive record in Saturday’s $27,500 Triton Pacific Owens Plate (1400m) at Tauranga.

The highly promising Pencarrow four-year-old has now had eight starts for four wins and two placings, earning more than $48,000 in stakes, with the promise of a lot more to come.

She was aided by a superb ride from Danielle Johnson on Saturday, never going around another runner in the 10-horse field. After enjoying a comfortable rails run in fourth or fifth spot for most of the race, a narrow gap opened in front of Les Crayeres in the home straight. She dived through, getting up to win by a long head.

Bred by Pencarrow and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Les Crayeres is trained by Ken and Bev Kelso at Matamata.

By champion sire Redoute’s Choice, Les Crayeres is out of Our Echezeaux (NZ) (Zabeel) and comes from one of Pencarrow’s finest families.

The dam of six winners from six foals to race, Our Echezeaux has produced stakes winners Dolmabache (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice), Pure Elegance (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice) and Cote D’Or (NZ) (Makfi).

Our Echezeaux is a full-sister to Grand Echezeaux (NZ) (Zabeel), who won the Group One Australasian Oaks (2000m) and is the dam of multiple Group One winner and top sire Darci Brahma (NZ) (Danehill), as well as multiple stakes winner and successful sire Burgundy (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice).

Our Echezeaux is also a three-quarter-sister to Romanee Conti (NZ) (Sir Tristram), who was a high-class racehorse in her own right but is most famous as the dam of the champion Ethereal (NZ) (Rhythm).
