Stylish Maiden Win for Copiapino (NZ)

Pencarrow filly Copiapino (NZ) (Medaglia d’Oro) scored the first win of her career with a powerful front-running performance in Wednesday’s $10,000 Stella Artois 3YO (1200m) at Hastings.

Ninth at Ruakaka on debut in early October, Copiapino took a big step forward in her second start.

Sent straight to the lead by jockey Lisa Allpress, Copiapino led all the way and turned back the challenge of Unlaced (NZ) (Niagara) in the straight to win by a neck.

Copiapino was bred by Pencarrow and is raced by Sir Peter Vela.

She is the first foal out of the Pentire mare Atacama(NZ), who carried the Pencarrow colours to seven wins including the Listed James Boag’s Premium Stakes (1800m) and Matamata Cup (1600m). She also placed in three Group races and finished fourth at Group 1 level. Atacama’s half-brother Beaumarchais (NZ) (Savabeel) was Group 3-placed and ran fourth in the Group 1 New Zealand Derby (2400m).

Atacama’s granddam Pavan (NZ) (Centaine) placed in the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m) and Australasian Oaks (2000m).
