Eminent Fourth in Epsom Derby

Sir Peter Vela’s colt Eminent (Frankel) has finished a commendable fourth in one of the world’s most prestigious races, the £1.6 million Group 1 Investec Derby (2400m) at Epsom.

Making just the fourth start of his career, the Martyn Meade-trained runner raced well back in the field before surging into contention in the straight. He looked set for a top-three finish until Wings Of Eagles (Pour Moi) passed him in a winning move inside the last 100 metres. Eminent, with Jim Crowley in the saddle, crossed the finish line a length and three-quarters behind the winner.

Eminent picked up £87,100 in prize-money for his fourth placing, boosting his career earnings to £133,051. He has had four starts for two wins, including the Group 3 Craven Stakes (1600m), and he was sixth in the Group 1 2000 Guineas (1600m).

Eminent was bought for £150,000 as a yearling.
