The Pencarrow Stud bred gelding El Gitano broke his maiden at Rotorua last week, with a win in the 1600m event for his owner IDL Racing.

By Black Minnaloushe from Pencarrow mare Tamarino (Caerleon), El Gitano was purchased from the 2006 Karaka Premier Sale by Dominic Li for $200,000.

Now trained by Stephen Marsh, it was the three-year-old's third career outing, adding the win to his second and third placings from his two previous starts.

Tamarino's colt by Elvstroem will be offered as a yearling by Pencarrow Stud at the Karaka Sale in January. She is currently in foal to Darci Brahma.
