Pencarrow Stud have welcomed the first foals of the new season, with a colt and a filly arriving safely to signal the start of the busy foaling period.

The colt, by the late, great sire Savabeel, was born Tuesday 25 August, and is out of Invincible Queen (NZ) (I Am Invincible), thus hailing from one of Pencarrow’s most proven families.

“This colt will be the last Savabeel at Pencarrow, we have bred to Savabeel regularly over the years and now there’s no more to come from the Champion sire,” Pencarrow Stud manager Leon Casey said.

“He’s the mare’s second foal and a three-quarter sibling to Supera, and he’s a very good colt. The mare has an Alabama Express colt that will be sold at the Karaka 2027 yearling sale.”

Invincible Queen is a half-sister to dual Gr 2 winner and multiple Gr 1-placed Supera, with the family also featuring Eleonora, Ethereal Star, Tomodachi and Pericles.

At the heart of the pedigree is Champion Stayer Ethereal, winner of the Gr.1 Melbourne Cup, Gr.1 Caulfield Cup, Gr.1 BMW Stakes and Gr.1 Queensland Oaks.

The first foal of the season arrived on Sunday 23 August, a filly by Ocean Park out of Chalk Hill (NZ) (Ten Sovereigns).

“This Ocean Park filly hails from the outstanding international Blush With Pride family,” Casey said.

The Blush With Pride family continues to produce black type performers worldwide. Of particular interest are two connections within the family – Listed winner Pemba Bay, also bred and raced by Sir Peter Vela in the Northern Hemisphere, and Gr.3 winner Ticket to Ride, a nine-time winner who has recently been purchased by Pencarrow Thoroughbreds to join the broodmare band.

“We have a great team here at Pencarrow, with very few changes to the staff, and we have some nice foals to look forward to this season, with another couple due in the next few days, so we’re well and truly underway,” said Casey.
