Pencarrow Top NZB Broodmare Sale

Buyers and breeders at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale showed just how keen they were to be able to buy into the bloodlines of Pencarrow’s broodmare band, with the Stud the leading broodmare vendor of the Sale.

Every single mare offered in the 30 strong draft was snapped up over the three day sale, with the top price of $95,000 paid for lot 760, Forpierre (Stravinsky x Forlorna), by Trent Busuttin of Cambridge. Forpierre was bought carrying a positive test to Darci Brahma.

Prolific breeder Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, represented by Tim Stakemire, was also delighted to be able to acquire some Pencarrow bloodlines purchasing Lots 505 Millers Pride (Lammtarra x Canadian Mill) and Lot 773 Hameeda (Hector Protector),

“We were delighted to be able to purchase two nice mares with fabulous pedigrees at this sale, commented Tim Stakemire. “These were the two we had picked out of the catalogue and as of yet we are not sure where they will be heading.

“We are extremely happy to be able to support the New Zealand breeding industry and would like to continue to do so.”

At the end of the broodmare session that saw 236 of the 342 catalogued lots find new homes, Pencarrow Stud was the leading vendor of the session with its 30 entries sold for $843,500.

Pencarrow Stud manager, Leon Casey, said the results were very pleasing for the team.

“It was extremely satisfying to see all of our draft sold - we were quite prepared to bring some of them home. The market though obviously valued them at a level where they are all sellable.

“We are looking forward to seeing results for the new owners and seeing them exposed to different bloodlines they might not have been exposed to. The level of interest exceeded our expectations and to see the mares go to such a range of homes and astute breeders is great.”

Pencarrow Stud expects another 40 to 50 foals to be born at the farm this coming breeding season.
