Win Rewards El Gitano’s Consistency

Pencarrow-bred gelding El Gitano (Black Minnaloushe x Tamarino, by Caerleon) recorded his second career win at Ellerslie on Saturday which took his earnings to $26,333.

Especially gifted at handling rain affected tracks, El Gitano relished the slow rated Ellerslie track and went on to score by two lengths for his owner and trainer Stephen Marsh.

The 1400m win came fourteen months after his maiden win over 1600m and in between times the brown five-year-old had remained extremely consistent placing worse than fifth only five times in fifteen starts.

His dam Tamarino has the perfect record at stud having produced six winners from six foals to race including Listed placed and Group 1 South Australian Guineas fourth Danalaga (Danehill).

Tamarino was represented at the 2009 Karaka Premier Sale by an Elvstroem colt in the Pencarrow Stud draft who brought $140,000 to the bid of Lakeview Resources.

Pencarrow will retain Tamarino’s Darci Brahma yearling filly with her due to the same Group 1 winning sire this season.
