First Stakeswinner for Le Bec Fin
26 October 2008
Pencarrow Stud bred sire Le Bec Fin has recorded his first stakeswinner with the Group 2 victory by Skirmish in the New Zealand Bloodstock Wellington Guineas (1500m) at Trentham on Saturday.
Drawing the widest barrier of the fourteen horse field, the grey filly from Kingdom Bay mare, Jollify, fought well to the line to win by a long neck.
The three-year-old filly is from Le Bec Fin's oldest crop.
Le Bec Fin is by Tale of the Cat from top performing Sir Tristram mare, Romanee Conti.
Herself bred at Pencarrow Stud, Romanee Conti was the Hong Kong International Cup and G3 STC Queen of the Turf S. winner, with four other Stakes and Listed races amongst the seven career wins to her credit. She also placed second to the champion Octagonal in the Queen Elizabeth Randwick Stakes.
At stud Romanee Conti has also produced champion racemare, Ethereal, a four-time Group 1 winner including a remarkable Caulfield & Melbourne Cups double.
Lightly raced, Le Bec Fin won on debut in course record time, and placed in his other two career starts. He now stands at Mark & Denny Baker's Hallmark Stud for $2,500.
