Hay And Pencarrow Enjoy More Success

Ashburton trainer Jan Hay continued her long-time successful association with Pencarrow Stud's horses with the win by consistent mare Voliera over 1600m at the Timaru meeting on Sunday.

"I've trained for Peter and Philip (Vela) for more than 15 years," Hay said. "We have had a lot of success together and one of the highlights was Coutet's win in the Invercargill Gold Cup," she said.

Voliera scored her first win at the Timaru meeting and it was well deserved.

The Keeper x Sierra Finch four-year-old mare had finished second at her two previous outings.

"She has never had any luck with barrier draws," Hay said. "She drew wide again at Timaru but Jason (Laking, jockey) got her over to the fence and gave her a lovely run throughout."

Hay said Voliera has a lot of improvement in her and will be suited over even more ground.

Voliera is nominated for the Kurow meeting on Saturday but is not a definite starter at this stage. "We will see how she does in the next couple of days before deciding on a start at the weekend," Hay said.
