Pencarrow Lands First Foal for the Season

Pencarrow Stud has welcomed their first foal of the 2013 breeding season, believed to be the first foal born in the Waikato region this year. The new arrival is a filly by Rip Van Winkle out of Terroir, born on Sunday night, just shy of the official start of the new season, 1 August.

Her sire Rip Van Winkle (Galileo), won three Group 1 races and was named Champion 3YO Miler in Europe in 2009 and Champion Older Miler in Europe in 2010. Terroir is by the all-conquering sire Danehill, the broodmare sire of 220 stakes winners including 45 Group 1 winners including Frankel, the highest rated racehorse of all time.

“It is a good medium sized foal with good bone and muscle,” commented Leon Casey, Stud Manager. “It is bred on the same cross as Frankel which is exciting.”
