Back to Back Victories for Revolutionary

South Island trained Pencarrow mare Revolutionary (Darci Brahma x Iconic) made it back to back wins yesterday with victory in the $8,000 Ashburton Racing Club Life Members Rating 85 1600m at Ashburton.

The four-year-old mare was a winner over the same course and distance on 25 January for trainer Jan Hay and rider Kylie Williams, and the pair combined once again for successive victories.

After jumping well from barrier 6, the daughter of Darci Brahma was taken to the tail of the seven-horse field by Williams. At the top of the straight every horse had a chance to win in an even race.

Revolutionary found the best turn of foot to gather in Parnell Prince (Keeper), who had burst to the lead on the inside, in the concluding stages of the race to win by a length, with a further two lengths back to Howbaddouneedit (Howbaddouwantit) in third.

“It was a good effort, she indicates she needs a bit more ground but it is very hard to place her at the moment, we will just search through and try and find a nice race for her somewhere,” commented Hay.

“Now she is racing straight it has made a difference. It was a big step in class yesterday and now I am scared to see what rating the handicapper gave her.

“She will definitely keep going this preparation. She has only had five starts and she is thriving on her work. She actually looked a bit big in condition to me yesterday but it didn’t seem to make much difference.”

Revolutionary now has three wins and four minor placings from her 14 starts. She has collected $19,400 in prizemoney for her owner Sir Peter Vela in her career that started in the North Island with John Sargent.

Revolutionary is out of Iconic (Centaine) a half-sister to the stakes performer Rapida (Senor Pete) who is the dam of Listed winner Gin Darte (Volksraad). Revolutionary’s half-sister Devotion finished third on Sunday at Counties at only her third start that has yielded two fourths prior. Iconic was served in 2013 by Sakhee’s Secret.

Bred by Sir Peter Vela and Philip Vela, Revolutionary is by Pencarrow Stud yearling graduate Darci Brahma, the sire of dual Group 1 winner Recite who won the Listed Wairapapa Breeders’ Stakes on Waitangi Day.
