Arpeggio wins again at Hastings

Pencarrow Racing galloper Arpeggio (Tavistock x Macchiato) backed up from her fresh-up win with another victory in the $10,000 Best Travel, Rating 75, 1200 at Hastings on New Year’s Day.

Starting from barrier 1, jockey Johnathon Parkes got to the front early then settled in third position on the rail behind leader Platinum Express (NZ) (Showcasing) and The Knight’s Queen (NZ) (Any Suggestion). With a copybook ride, Parkes slipped between the leaders and Arpeggio went onto score by two-lengths. Airlie House(NZ) (Tavistock) finished second with Temple Tiger (NZ) (Tiger Prawn) a long neck back in third.

The four-year-old mare recorded her fourth win from seven starts. The win takes her stakes tally to over $41,000 for owner Sir Peter Vela.

"She’s a mare on the up with a pretty good record,” commented trainer Stephen Autridge. “We’ll try and get some black type with her. We feel she is up to it.”

Bred by Sir Peter Vela and Philip Vela, Arpeggio is out of winning mare Macchiato (Night Shift) who is a half-sister to stakes winner Filante Etoile (Soviet Star), winner of the Listed Metropolitan Handicap and runner-up in the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks. Arpeggio’s half-brother is Hard (Catbird), who won the Listed Oaklands Plate.

A full-brother to Arpeggio is catalogued at Lot 384 at the 2016 Karaka Premier Sale from Pencarrow Stud.
