Penteverest (NZ) Scores Stylish Avondale Win

Carrying the blue and white hoops of Pencarrow, Penteverest (NZ) (Pentire) scored an impressive victory in the $10,000 Vineyards West Auckland 1600 at Avondale on Wednesday.

With Jason Waddell in the saddle, the three-year-old settled in third position in a strung-out field. He crept closer to the leading pair approaching the home turn, then burst to the lead at the 300-metre mark.

He opened up a margin of more than three lengths halfway up the straight, and held on comfortably by a length and a quarter from the fast-finishing Scutar (NZ) (O’Reilly), who was three and a half lengths ahead of the rest of the field.

Trained by Ken and Bev Kelso and Mark Donoghue, Penteverest has now had three starts for a win, a second and $8,250 in prizemoney.

Penteverest is raced by Sir Peter Vela in partnership with Laurie Laxon, who won nine premierships during a Hall of Fame training career in Singapore.

Penteverest is a half-brother to two stakes winners – Single Currency (NZ) (Bachelor Duke), who won nine races including the Listed Waikato Sprint Handicap, and Super Jockey (NZ) (Sandtrap), who won the Korea Sprint and finished second in the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen at Meydan.
