Half an hour after the Pencarrow colours were carried to victory in the Group 2 Travis Stakes at Te Rapa, they also featured in a highly impressive performance at Hastings on Saturday.

Three-year-old filly Wild Seas (NZ) (Ocean Park) dropped well back in the early part of the $22,500 Hawke’s Bay Breeders’ Association 1200, but she stormed down the straight and streaked clear for a highly impressive three-length victory.

“Her work at home has been really good, and she’s raced up to that work,” co-trainer Andrew Scott said.

“They went along at good speed, and she quickened well in the straight. Up over 1400 and 1600 metres, when she’s four and five, she’ll get up to open class for sure.”

Wild Seas has now had six starts for two wins and three placings, earning $26,235 in stakes. Her only time outside the placings was a last-start 12^th in the Listed Oaks Prelude (1800m) at New Plymouth in February.

Bred by Pencarrow Thoroughbreds and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Wild Seas is out of the Lonhro mare Santangelo (NZ), who won six races and was Group 3-placed. She is the dam of four named foals, all of them winners – Wild Seas, Wild Child (NZ) (Darci Brahma), Lim’s Pershing (NZ) (Pins) and Lucky’s Revenge (NZ) (Darci Brahma).

Santangelo is a half-sister to Kolonel Kev (NZ) (Darci Brahma), who won the Listed Timaru Cup and has been twice Group 2-placed.
