Pearl Series Success for Sattriya (NZ)
17 February 2026
Lightly raced Pencarrow mare Sattriya (NZ) (Super Seth) scored a lucrative maiden win at New Plymouth on Friday, taking out the $25,000 Entain/NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race (1400m) along with its $20,000 Pearl Series bonus for the winner.
Sattriya is trained locally at New Plymouth by Allan Sharrock and had shown promising signs in her first two starts, both on her home track. She was a strong-finishing second on debut on November 21, followed by another big late run for third on December 31.
It was third time lucky on Friday as Sattriya produced an even more powerful come-from-behind performance. The four-year-old settled near the back of the field and had only three rivals behind her approaching the home turn, but jockey Kelly Myers angled her to the outside at the top of the straight and let her rip.
Sattriya blew past her opposition in the final 200 metres, charging into the lead and racing away to win by two and a quarter lengths.
From three starts, Sattriya has now had a win, two placings and $19,370 in stakes, plus the $20,000 Pearl bonus.
Sattriya is by the emerging star Waikato Stud stallion Super Seth. Pencarrow is a proud shareholder in the Group One Caulfield Guineas (1600m) winner and has had significant early success with him, headed by last season’s Group One Australian Guineas (1600m) winner Feroce (NZ) and Group One Queensland Derby (2400m) winner Maison Louis (NZ).
Super Seth is the sire of 71 winners from 128 runners, with eight stakes winners including Feroce, Maison Louis, Linebacker (NZ) and La Dorada (NZ) at Group One level.
The dam of Sattriya is Pencarrow’s homebred star Rasa Lila (NZ) (Darci Brahma), who won seven races including the Group Two Travis Stakes (2000m) and Group Three Cuddle Stakes (1600m). She also placed in the Group One Windsor Park Plate (1600m) and Easter Handicap (1600m), while her half-sister Posavina (NZ) (Tiger Hill) won the Group Three Lowland Stakes (2100m) and is a black-type producer.
Rasa Lila is now the dam of two winners from three foals to race. Her son Toa Haka (NZ) (Iffraaj) has won five races and was close up behind the placegetters in the Listed Timaru Stakes (1600m) at Riccarton on January 24.
The next foal Rasa Lila produced after Sattriya was a Home Affairs filly born in 2023. Named Truly Divine (NZ), the two-year-old has been retained by Sir Peter Vela and won her first trial at Ellerslie this week for Cambridge trainer Tony Pike.
Rasa Lila produced colts by Satono Aladdin in 2024 and 2025.
The Entain-NZB Insurance Pearl Series is a bonus scheme for Southern Hemisphere-bred fillies and mares.
The scheme includes up to 100 individual races for fillies and mares over four seasons of racing, with bonuses for each race of $28,000.
The series has been designed to benefit owners, trainers and breeders of fillies and mares running in New Zealand, with races available in all regions of the country. All bonuses are cumulative, ie a horse can win multiple bonuses throughout her racing career.
