Pedigree Updates Boost Pencarrow’s Karaka 2026 Draft
20 January 2026
Pencarrow Stud’s quality draft for Karaka 2026 has been boosted by a series of pedigree updates over the last few weeks.
The most significant updates are for Lot 465, the colt by U S Navy Flag out of Group One-winning mare Guiseppina (NZ) (Johar).
Two of Guiseppina’s progeny have won since the catalogue went to print. Tavi Time (NZ) (Tavistock) recorded his 10th win from a 28-start career when he successfully defended his title in the Group Three Summer Cup (2000m) at Randwick on Boxing Day, while Sarti (NZ) (Snitzel) made a big impression with a come-from-behind victory on debut at Tauranga on January 8. Another member of the Pencarrow draft, Lot 764, is out of Guiseppina’s daughter Giammetti (NZ) (Fastnet Rock) – a half-sister to Tavi Time and Sarti.
Lot 134 is by Savabeel out of the stakes-winning mare Sleeping Beauty (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle). This colt is closely related to Agera (NZ) (Complacent), who has won twice since the catalogue went to print including the Group Two Tauranga Stakes (1600m).
Lots 140, 163, 261, 365 and 516 are from the same family as Pencarrow’s exciting homebred mare Tomodachi (NZ) (Tarzino), who was a strong-finishing fourth in this month’s Group One Telegraph (1200m). The family has also recently produced the smart Ellerslie winner and Listed Gingernuts Salver (2100m) fourth placegetter Day One (Wootton Bassett) along with Te Rapa winner Pericles (NZ) (Rubick).
Lot 522 is a half-brother to the highly promising Passiflora (NZ) (Farnan) who won again at Wanganui in late November to improve her career record to two wins and a placing from only three starts. This colt by Super Seth is also from the family of globe-trotting Group One star Dubai Honour (Pride Of Dubai), who has added two recent Listed placings to his record, while Trust (Heavenly Blue) and Truth (Heavenly Blue) have both been Group placegetters in South Africa.
Lot 283 comes from the same family as the recent Listed Clasico Arabal (1300m) winner Belmont Collection (Collected) along with three-time recent French winner Central Park West (Martinborough) and Grade Two Los Alamitos Futurity (1700m) runner-up Blacksmith (Liam’s Map).
Lot 68 is a half-brother to Toa Haka (NZ) (Iffraaj), who has won twice since the catalogue went to print, while their half-sister Sattriya (NZ) (Super Seth) has placed on two occasions. Close relatives Fosse (NZ) (Darci Brahma), Ariadne (NZ) (Almanzor) and Adios Vamanos (NZ) (Vadamos) have also been recent winners. Lot 48 is out of a sibling to Ariadne.
Lot 4 is a half-brother to the recent Selangor winner Sir Ruby (NZ) (King Of Comedy) and closely related to Hong Kong winner Bunta Baby (Cable Bay).
Lot 133 is closely related to Amyer Star (NZ) (Almanzor), a recent winner at Rotorua.
Karaka 2026 will take place at the Karaka Sales Centre from January 25 to 29, with Book 1 on January 25 and 26, Book 2 on January 27 and the new Karaka Summer Sale on January 29.
