Rare Opportunity to Secure Pencarrow Fillies at Karaka 2026

Pencarrow Stud has built up its internationally renowned bloodlines primarily by retaining, racing and breeding from generations of impeccably bred fillies. But occasionally they put a select few of them on the market, and Karaka 2026 will be one of those occasions.

Pencarrow will offer six fillies at New Zealand’s 100th National Yearling Sale, with five in Book 1 and one in Book 2.

The first filly Pencarrow will put through the ring is Lot 48, by Dundeel (NZ) out of Podravina (NZ) (Bel Esprit). Podravina won five races and placed in the Listed Wairarapa Breeders’ Stakes (1600m), while her dam Posavina (NZ) (Tiger Hill) won at Group Three level. Podravina is the dam of one foal to race, Duma (NZ) (Too Darn Hot), who has won four races and more than RM300,000 (NZ$125,000) in Malaysia.

Lot 140 is by Proisir out of Sopraffina (NZ) (High Chaparral). Herself a four-race winner, Sopraffina is a half-sister to the Group winners and Group One placegetters Supera (NZ) (Savabeel) and Eleonora (NZ) (Makfi). She is also a three-quarter-sister to the dam of the exciting Tomodachi (NZ) (Tarzino), who has won six of her 10 starts so far in the Pencarrow colours including the Group Three Rotorua Stakes (1400m). Tomodachi was a last-start third placegetter in the Group One Proisir Plate (1400m) at Ellerslie.

Lot 286 is a filly by Circus Maximus out of Assume (Fastnet Rock), who was a three-time stakes placegetter in Ireland.

Perhaps the highest-profile filly in the draft is Lot 365, who is a half-sister to last season’s Group One Queensland Derby (2400m) winner Maison Louis (NZ) (Super Seth). She is by Proisir out of Cote D’Or (NZ) (Makfi), who herself won eight races including the Matamata Cup (1600m) and is a half-sister to the Group Two winner and Group One-placed Dolmabache (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice) along with Group Three winner Pure Elegance (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice). Cote D’Or is the dam of three foals to race, all winners.

Lot 516 is by Toronado and is the first foal out of Les Crayeres (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice), who won five races and placed in the Listed Wairarapa Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1600m). She is a full-sister to the Group winners Dolmabache (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice) and Pure Elegance (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice), a blood-sister to Group One performer and sire Burgundy (NZ), and a half-sister to the stakes performer and black-type producer Cote D’Or (NZ) (Makfi).

The final yearling in Pencarrow’s Karaka 2026 draft is Lot 806, a filly by rising star stallion Ardrossan out of the three-race winner La Adelita (NZ) (High Chaparral).

Karaka 2026 will take place at the Karaka Sales Centre from January 25 to 29, with Book 1 on January 25 and 26 and Book 2 on January 27.

All yearlings purchased are eligible for the Karaka Millions Series featuring the $1m TAB Karaka Millions 2YO (1200m), followed by the $1.5m TAB Karaka Millions 3YO (1600m) as well as the NZB Mega Maiden Bonus Series with $1m in bonuses up for grabs across 40 maiden races each season.
