Bibulous: Consistency Pays Off

Pencarrow Stud owned and bred Bibulous (Faltaat – Battocchi) was rewarded for his consistency over his five start career with a stellar victory in the Tables on the River Restaurant Maiden (1400m) at Te Rapa on Saturday.

The four-years-old raced with blinkers for the first time and settled towards the back of the field for jockey Vinnie Colgan. Angled widest of all in the 14 horse field Bibulous was asked for a huge effort to run down runaway leader Copybook (Anabaa) with the son of Faltaat knuckling down to swoop on the leader in the closing stages.

Knightsbridge, another son of Faltaat came with a similar run to Bibulous and claimed a long neck second, with a long neck back to the third placed Starmon (Monolith), the time was a respectable 1.23.60 which was just .02 of a second slower than the rating 70 1400m winner Keepolaria in the very next race.

Trained by Bruce Wallace, Bibulous has never finished further back than fourth.

Bibulous, defined by dictionary.com as “fond of or addicted to drink” looks to have a promising future which bodes well for Pencarrow’s very own Battocchi (Success Express). Battocchi won the Listed Matriach Stakes at Flemington, run on the same Saturday ten years ago. She is the dam of four foals to race, with all four winning.

The Stud has retained a two-year-old half-sister to Bibulous by Johar and has her in training with Mark Walker. Battocchi successfully foaled a bay colt by Darci Brahma (Danehill) on the 10th of October and will visit the Champion racehorse again this season.
