Deauville Returns to Singapore’s Winner’s Circle

Pencarrow Racing’s Singapore galloper Deauville (Darci Brahma x Bartolomeo) is back to winning form with victory in the S$60,000 Class 4 (1400m) at Singapore’s race meeting last night.

Trained by Laurie Laxon, Deauville has won four races and placed on five occasions from his 23 starts. After some poor performances lately, the four-year-old gelding returned to the winner’s circle for the first time since September.

In a field of 13 horses, Deauville began the race from barrier 11 for jockey Michael Rodd, racing wide in a midfield position.

Straightening on the turn for home, Deauville was one of five horses stretched across the track vying for the lead. Hitting the front at the 200m, he fought off his opposition to win by a head over Ares (Approve) and Five Hundred Bucks (NZ) (Gold Centre), who finished in second and third place respectively.

The son of Darci Brahma is owned by Sir Peter Vela and Laxon’s Silver Fern Stable.

Bred by Sir Peter Vela and Philip Vela, the four-year-old gelding is out of Bartolomeo (Strategic), a half-sister to Mirandola (O’Reilly), winner of the Listed 2YO Fillies’ Stakes. Deauville is a full-brother to Jonathan and a half-brother to Soul Commander (Commands), both winners in Singapore. Deauville is also a half-brother to three-year-old Miropiko (Sakhee’s Secret), runner-up in her first of three starts this season.
