Two from Three for Belle Eclipse

Pencarrow Racing’s Belle Eclipse (Darci Brahma x Zino Belle) made it two wins from three New Zealand starts when winning the $22,500 Collinson & Co 1200 at Ellerslie on Sunday.

Starting from the ace draw for jockey Vinnie Colgan, Belle Eclipse settled fifth on the inside until Colgan angled the mare to the middle of the track on the turn, hitting the lead at the 150m mark and winning by one-length over Fully Funded (NZ) (Fully Fledged) in second with Garland (NZ) (Thorn Park) a head back in third.

Belle Eclipse recently returned to New Zealand to resident Pencarrow Stud trainers Steven Ramsay and Julia Ritchie, after starting her career in Victoria with David Hayes and Tom Dabering last season, winning once from six attempts.

Her three starts in New Zealand have provided two wins and, along with her victory last season in Australia, she has earned career stakes of $33,350.

“We’ll likely head to Ellerslie again, there’s two Rating 75 races over 1200m and 1400m on Boxing Day,” Sir Peter Vela racing manager Garry Cossey said.

The daughter of Darci Brahma, owned by Sir Peter Vela who bred the mare with Philip Vela, is out of stakes winning mare Zino Belle (Success Express), winner of the Group 3 Hawke’s Bay Gold Trail Stakes.

Zino Belle is also the dam of Silver Eclipse (Darci Brahma), a full sister to Belle Eclipse, a stakes-winner in the Listed Pegasus Stakes last season.
