Sleeping Beauty Completes Hat-Trick At Ellerslie

Promising Pencarrow mare Sleeping Beauty (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle) recorded her third win in a row when she romped home by six lengths in Saturday’s $25,000 Swiss Belsuites 1200 at Ellerslie.

Trained by Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott and ridden by stable apprentice Sam Weatherley, the five-year-old trailed the early leader before taking control in the straight and opening up a commanding advantage in the last 300 metres.

Sleeping Beauty has now had nine starts for four wins, three seconds and prize-money of exactly $40,000.

Bred and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Sleeping Beauty is out of the three-time winning Danehill mare Kailey Princess (NZ). That mare has produced eight winners from 10 foals to race including the stakes placegetters Prosperous Bid (NZ) (Carnegie) and Canny Princess (NZ) (Canny Lad).

Another of Kailey Princess’s foals, Sea Island (NZ) (Woodman) is the dam of the Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap winner Herculian Prince (NZ) (Yamanin Vital).
