Vichy (NZ) Continues Pencarrow’s Hot Form

The outstanding form of Pencarrow Stud’s racing team continued at Matamata on Wednesday as Vichy (NZ) (Cape Blanco) took out the $10,000 Happy 5th Birthday James Brosnan 1400.

The blue and white hooped colours have been carried to eight victories in the last seven weeks, including a double at Ellerslie on Sunday.

The latest winner, Vichy, cleared maiden status in her third career start on Wednesday. Ridden by Ryan Elliot for local trainers Graham Richardson and Gavin Parker, the mare was handily positioned early in the race but was squeezed back into the second half of the field approaching the home turn.

Elliot angled Vichy to the outside in the straight and she produced a smart turn of foot to win by a short neck.

Bred by Pencarrow Thoroughbreds Ltd and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Vichy has now had a win and a placing in her three-start career, earning $8,250 in stakes.

Vichy is out of the stakes-winning Catbird mare Vercors (NZ), a half-sister to the Group 1 performer Hasselhoof (NZ) (Tavistock).

Vercors is the dam of four named foals, with all of them now winners.
