Pedigree Updates Bolster Pencarrow’s Karaka 2023 Draft

A series of significant pedigree updates have added even more interest to Pencarrow Stud’s outstanding draft of 22 yearlings catalogued for Book 1 of Karaka 2023.

Lot 567 is a filly by U S Navy Flag out of the Group Two winner and Group One-placed Supera (NZ) (Savabeel). Supera’s equally talented half-sister Eleonora (NZ) (Makfi) is the dam of two-year-old filly Ethereal Star (Snitzel), who has made a superb start to her racing career in recent weeks.

Since the catalogue went to print, Ethereal Star has scored a dominant win in the Listed Counties Challenge Stakes (1100m) and finished a close and gallant second in the $1m DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka Million 2YO (1200m).

While Lot 567 is a close relative, Lots 69, 112, 145 and 573 also come from the same outstanding Pencarrow family and have benefited from Ethereal Star’s notable pedigree updates.

Lot 253 is by Super Seth out of Irion (NZ) (Danroad). This filly is a half-sister to a rising star of Pencarrow’s racing team, Pearl Of Alsace (NZ) (Tavistock). She scored a maiden win at New Plymouth on November 18, and followed it up with impressive back-to-back successes at Trentham on December 3 and January 21. She is now undefeated in three starts, with the promise of much more to come.

Lot 495, a Savabeel colt out of Scintillula (Galileo), is closely related to Danyah (Invincible Spirit), who finished second in the Listed Dubai Mile (1600m).

Lot 520 comes from the same family as Kissinger (NZ) (Tavistock), who collected the first black-type success of his 25-start, seven-win career in the Listed Pakenham Cup (2500m) on December 3.

Lots 193 and 221 are half-siblings to recent maiden winners Churchillian (NZ) (Churchill) and Tavi Time (NZ) (Tavistock) respectively, while Lot 58 is closely related to Pure Imagination (NZ) (Darci Brahma) and Lidl Miss Sunshine (Silvano), who have both won races since the catalogue went to print.

Lot 526 is closely related to Calla Dream (Dream Ahead), who won the A$100,000 Viddora Series Final (1200m) in November, and also comes from the same family as the Group Two Eclipse Stakes (1200m) runner-up Talisker (NZ) (Embellish).
